History

Susan G. Komen is the world’s largest breast cancer organization, funding more breast cancer research than any other nonprofit while providing real-time help to those facing the disease. Since its founding in 1982, Komen has funded more than $800 million in research and provided more than $1.6 billion in funding to screening, education, treatment and psychosocial support programs serving millions of people in more than 30 countries worldwide. Komen was founded by Nancy G. Brinker, who promised her sister, Susan G. Komen, that she would end the disease that claimed Suzy’s life.

The Komen North Louisiana Affiliate is a brand new affiliate brought together by both the Komen Northeast and Komen Northwest Louisiana offices. Susan G. Komens Northwest Louisiana Affiliate began with just a Race back in 1994 while Susan G. Komen’s Northeast Louisiana Affiliate began in 1996.

Both Komen Northwest and Komen Northeast Louisiana were committed to raising awareness of breast health issues, educating our community on breast cancer statistics and recommendations, and raising funds to fund local screening, education, support and some treatment grants to local women living right here in our communities. As one, we remain committed to being your resource for all things breast health. From educating Northwest Louisiana, to support our newly diagnosed as well as our forever fighters living with metastatic disease, we are here for you.
