Susan G. Komen North Louisiana is the local resource for women who need breast cancer screening, diagnostic and support services. Through annual events including the Race for the Cure and individual contributions, Komen North Louisiana raises funds that enable women to detect and survive breast cancer.
Seventy-five percent of all funds raised by the Affiliate stay in our service area to fund breast health programs for women who would not otherwise have access to screening and treatment. Twenty-five percent of funds raised supports the Susan G. Komen® Research Grants Program .
HOW DO WE DETERMINE WHERE TO INVEST OUR FUNDS? We start with a biannual community profile. This is a comprehensive study of our service area that examines access to care, current health systems, current non medical healthcare needs such as transportation, breast cancer incidence and mortality rates and more. Each community profile identifies which parishes should be prioritized with the most urgent breast health needs. Those parishes are a top priority in our Request for Applications which we release annually and breast health programs that make an IMPACT in those priority parishes are given careful consideration as well as top priority. An independent anonymous review panel receives each application for funding and ranks each program based on several factors including impact and feasibility.
As a Susan G. Komen affiliate, we strive to make the most significant impact on the lives of women and men and their families affected by breast cancer.
As Komen Northeast and Komen Northwest transition into Komen North Louisiana, the local grants programs will award funding separately for the 2016-2017 grant cycle. Below are the 2015 Community Profiles of each.
